04.09.11 – Benefit for Jill Hanks, Atwood, TN…

Words can’t describe the time I had back in Atwood, TN this past weekend… Keith was asked to be a part of the Benefit Fundraiser for Jill Hanks (who has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and so he and I (and his son, Will), along with a few other local singers had the privilege of providing some entertainment for the afternoon/evening during the benefit. They had a silent auction, along with selling hot dogs, hamburgers, cake, cookies, pie, etc… to help raise money for Jill and her husband. If ever I realized how BIG our God is, it was this weekend. I went into it hoping they might raise at least $1,000 or so for them but in the end, the last I heard they had raised $5,660 for Jill and Roy. GOD IS GREAT! And, the love that is in that town is amazing. It made me miss my hometown all the more. The beautiful people I met this past weekend (Ivy Gail, Bill McDaniel, Penny Hanks, Brenda, Keith’s mom and dad and all the others) made me feel like I was ‘home.’ A big thank you to Billy Hanks for hosting the benefit in his shop on his farm. It was such a great place to have the fundraiser! And, the weather was so nice… I just couldn’t have asked for a better weekend and it is one I will never forget!

I just wanted to send out a huge THANK YOU to Laura and John for coming down from Bowling Green to hear Keith and I sing at the Nashville Palace on the 26th of February…. and to Keith’s friends, Karen, Kathy and Kim who came from West Tennessee to see us as well… we all had such a wonderful night hanging out at the Nashville Palace with all of you guys! Hope to see you all again here real soon in the months to come…!

02.12.11 – The World Famous Nashville Palace, Nashville, TN…

Keith and I had the honor of meeting one of our MySpace friends for the very first time this past Saturday night, Denise Harmon Henry and her beautiful daughter, Monica as well! They flew into Nashville for a girls weekend and to visit our great city for the very first time! They are from Marble Falls, Texas… about an hour outside of Austin! I have been talking with Denise going on two years now – each of us keeping up with the others lives via email. It is SO nice to finally meet someone you’ve become close to through a social network like MySpace, Facebook, etc… They wanted to hear us sing while they were in town. Keith and I didn’t have anything booked this weekend so we went up to the Nashville Palace (LOVE THAT PLACE!!) and Rob and Darren were kind enough to let Keith and I get up and sing about 6 songs while they mingled with the crowd and took a small break.

Denise and Monica were so wonderful… they took some video footage of Keith and I singing on stage and did a FANTASTIC job at it! We can’t thank them enough for doing that for us! After we sang in the front room… we headed to the back room where the Nashville Palace band was playing and people were up dancing and having a great time. Keith and I were able to get up and sing three songs with the band. It was such an awesome experience! We just can’t thank them enough for letting us get up there and share the stage with them for the evening! Their band is amazing and they just made us feel so at home! I just can’t brag on them enough! You should check them out if you are ever in Nashville… The Palace is right across from the Opryland Hotel on McGavock Pike – you can’t miss it! Denise and Monica were kind enough to record Keith and I singing with the band in the back room as well. Take a look at video page here on my website… I’m sure we’ll have some of the footage up real soon! As we were getting ready to leave for the evening, Keith and I got to stop and talk with a great group of folks that had been listening to us in the back room. (I posted a picture of them below) Most of them were from Illinois and a couple from Murfreesboro, TN… the ones from Murfreesboro joked that the ones from IL got to visit Nashville more than they did! : ) Just a kind and warm group of people… we really enjoyed getting to talk to them!!

There are nights you wish you could go back and relive again… well, that was one of them for me. Not just because of us getting to sing in both the acoustic front room and the back room with the Palace’s fabulous band… but, because we met two of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet in you lives for the first time… and they just instantly felt like ole’ friends we hadn’t seen in forever! I sure can’t wait till we can see their faces again. They invited us to come sing down there so we just might take them up on it and make our way on down to Texas here before too long!

Thank you again to all of the gang at the Nashville Palace that greeted Keith and I so warmly and let us help entertain the crowd for the evening! It was a night I won’t soon forget! : )

12.22.10 – Garth Brooks – Nashville, TN…

I got a call at the last minute Wednesday evening, December 22nd from my wonderful roommate asking me if I wanted to go see the Garth Brooks show with her and some of her friends from work. They somehow had an extra ticket and so she called and invited me to go… the seats were up in what some people would normally refer to as the nose bleed seats but it didn’t matter… we were there… at the show… a GARTH BROOKS show!! And, thanks to my trusty camera, it didn’t let me down and I was able to get some pretty decent shots! I’ve seen some entertainers but Garth REALLY knows how to reach his fans… and the fact that he seems so humble and so very grateful for his success after what he said has been 24 years going at this… well, it just really makes you respect an artist like that!

Garth had a couple of guest come out and sing that evening… his wife, Trisha Yearwood – who not only sang with him but also sang a few songs on her on! And, we also had the privilege of hearing Mr. Steve Wariner sing ‘Longneck Bottle’ with Garth as well. Toward the end of the show, Nashville’s mayor, Karl Dean came out and presented Garth and Trisha with a plaque to commemorate the shows and how much money they had helped to raise for the Flood Relief. Mayor Dean said that the two shows on Wednesday, December 22nd alone took in right at about 5 million dollars for the Flood Relief Fund.

It was just an amazing evening and I would definitely go see Garth again… and again… and again. Thank you, Kristi, for thinking of me and calling to offer me the opportunity to experience Garth for what was the first but hopefully will not be the last time!

12.18.10 – Tootsie’s, Nashville, TN…

And 2010 just keeps getting better – still…!

I think I have a permanent smile fixed on my face from singing today for the first time at the World Famous Tootsie’s downtown on Broadway here in Nashville. I had the pleasure of backing up Keith Murray and… the band playing for us was absolutely amazing the second time we were able to get up and sing for a bit (we sang acoustically on the first set of songs)! I just couldn’t be more thankful to have had the opportunity to be there and help entertain the crowd today! I hope there are many, many more times like that to come… A big thank you to Troy (from Lodiburg, KY, near my hometown of Irvington, KY) who happened to be in Nashville for the weekend and came out to support us (and kindly took a few pictures so we’d have something to remember the day by)! It was really nice to see someone from back home in the crowd!! And, to all of the wonderful people that came up to Keith and I after we sang and paid us such nice compliments and talked with us for a while… we treasure you all so very, very much! It truly is the country music fans that make the pursuit of ‘the dream’ more than worth it!!

11.26.10 – Thanksgiving in Irvington, KY…

There’s nothing quite like going home, especially for the holidays… I had such a wonderful weekend back in Kentucky with all of my family and close friends… I got to spend time with Mom, Daddy, Grandma, Brian, Linda and Mamaw! We just all had such a great time hanging out together over the long holiday weekend. I got a chance to go down to Pop’s Cafe and listen to a bunch of the folks from back home sing some karaoke, including my mom. We just had the best time… I took a few pictures of the crew while I was there. Hope they don’t mind me putting their kind faces up on my site! : ) Got to spend some time talking shop with one of the nicest (and funniest) guys in town, Mr. ‘Punkin’ Milburn while I was back home as well. If you ever need a DJ or someone to do karaoke for your function or party, he’s the man to call (270-945-6110) around those parts! He’s got all of the competition beat by a mile and then some!! We also ate at our regular hangout, Green Valley a couple of times while we were all there together. I just want to thank Brendan for doing such a GREAT job waiting on us… he just made us feel so at home and welcome and even pulled out the chair for Mamaw a time or two… what a gentleman! Thanks for the excellent service, Brendan!!

I just couldn’t be more THANKFUL for the precious people the Good Lord has surrounded me with. I am so blessed to have each of them in my life! I thank God for all of them – and not just on Thanksgiving… but all the year through!

Hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving with your families… may you enjoy Christmas just as much if not even more with the ones you love!!

I can’t thank the people enough that came out to support us Saturday night… My great friend, Nate Brant (keep an eye out for him – he’s an up and coming artist!), my wonderful roommate, Kristi Johnson and so many of her terrific friends (thank you, thank you, thank you to Jodi Hughes, Caroline Green, Andrea Lucado, Whitney Hallberg, Ashley Miller, Ty Powers, Cindy Caldwell and Michael Aulisio!!! – I appreciate you guys so much for coming out to give us a listen!! And, a very special thanks to Ashley for taking some pics of us as we sang/played!!). A sweet couple from near Keith’s hometown of Atwood, TN came out to support him and some of Johnny’s friends came out to cheer him on as well. (By the way, it was SO great to have you playing with us Johnny! Great job!!!!!! We got a lot of compliments on your playing! Can’t wait to have you back with us again here soon…) And, a big thanks to Eddie for letting us fly on our own while you were away… we sure appreciate the opportunity so very much!
